【Hangzhou News】The highly anticipated Xiling Yinshe 2026 Spring Auction recently concluded successfully, with the 'Scholar's Objects: Jade, Stone, and Seal Carving' special session performing exceptionally well. The total transaction volume reached RMB 185 million, with a remarkable sell-through rate of 89.5%, significantly exceeding market expectations. This auction not only showcased the unique charm of traditional Chinese scholar's art but also further confirmed the strong growth momentum in the high-end jade and scholar's objects market.
This special session featured 123 lots, with several exquisite jade scholar's objects attracting fierce bidding from collectors. The most notable was a 'White Jade Carved Kui Dragon Brush Pot' from the Qing Qianlong period. Its warm jade quality and exquisite carving ultimately fetched a high price of RMB 38 million, an increase of 52% from its lowest estimate (RMB 25 million). Another 'Hetian Jade Seed Material Carved Auspicious Beast Paperweight' also performed well, closing at RMB 12.5 million, with a premium rate of 38%. In addition, several jade carved seals, brush washers, and water droppers from the Ming and Qing dynasties were sold at prices higher than their estimates, with an average premium rate of about 25%.
From the data, the total transaction volume of the jade and scholar's objects session at this Xiling Yinshe Spring Auction increased by 15% compared to the same period last year, and the sell-through rate also improved by 3 percentage points. This indicates that in the current macroeconomic environment, the high-end art market, especially jade and scholar's objects with profound cultural heritage and scarcity, remains a preferred choice for collectors seeking value preservation and appreciation. Market analysts point out that with the revival of traditional Chinese culture and the younger demographic of collectors, the demand for elegant scholar's objects continues to be strong, especially for exquisite pieces with famous provenance and clear lineage, whose market value is self-evident.
Mr. Lu, General Manager of Xiling Yinshe Auction Co., Ltd., stated in an interview: "We are very satisfied with the results of this spring auction, especially the performance of the jade and scholar's objects sector, which exceeded our expectations. This reflects the strong demand from collectors for high-quality, rare scholar's art. In the future, we will continue to deepen our efforts in this field to provide more exquisite items for collectors."
Professor Wang, a senior expert from the China Jade Culture Research Association, commented: "The results of this auction once again prove the scarcity and value appreciation potential of Hetian jade, especially high-quality seed material, in the market. White jade carvings from the Qing Qianlong period, due to their unique historical value, exquisite craftsmanship, and rare materials, have always been favorites among collectors. The high premium behind the transactions is a full recognition of their artistic value and cultural connotations. At the same time, we also see that some jade scholar's objects with innovative designs and modern aesthetic elements are beginning to attract attention, indicating a trend towards market diversification."
Looking ahead, the jade and scholar's objects market is expected to maintain steady growth. On the one hand, the increasing depletion of high-quality resources will further drive up the prices of rare jade; on the other hand, with the popularization of collecting knowledge and the improvement of aesthetic standards, collectors will have higher requirements for the cultural connotation and artistic value of works. It is expected that in the next few years, auction prices for exquisite jade scholar's objects will continue to show a steady upward trend, and those lots with unique stories, clear provenance, and exquisite craftsmanship will become the focus of market pursuit.
